Salesperson permissions

Forgive me if this has already been addressed, but we are wanting to add Salesperson permissions with access to only SALES functions. Is there a way to customize their permissions or are we stuck with the 4 default ones? I'm not sure it's logical for a salesperson to have all accounting, buying and financial reporting permissions.
