Linking COGS with sales

DZK_CreativeDZK_Creative Member Posts: 2

I'm a new user to Waves and still trying to work my way around the software so please forgive me if I'm missing something obvious.

Anyway, my company is project based with each project having a lot of different expenses which vary depending on the project.

I have been adding these costs into individual expense accounts.

I would then like to link those expense accounts to the income from the associated project so that I can see the profit (or loss) for that individual project.

Is this possible? At the moment I can only see profit and loss per month / year / quarter etc.

Thanks in advance!

    Hey @DZK_Creative!

Wave does not currently offer job or project-based accounting. Our Product Team is always looking for ways to make Wave better and this is a highly requested feature so it's most definitely on our radar for potential future enhancements. Wave does offer the ability to categorize transactions. You can learn about those HERE but I understand it won't accomplish the same thing.

You also have the option to Open Multiple Businesses within the same Wave account treating each one like a different project. This is another common workaround some of our users do, so you can switch between them with just a few clicks. You could then run reports for each business as needed and manually add the totals but again, Wave is not explicitly designed for this.

    Thanks for the response Connor.

Yes this would be a great feature, please get the development pixies to work on it post haste!

It would really upgrade the potential of Waves for me and I'm sure, as you say, there are many other small businesses like mine that would really appreciate the ability to reconcile costs per project.

I see the workarounds that you propose could work as a temporary fix, but to be honest I might as well do it in Excel (which is what I'm currently doing anyway!)
