Has Wave dropped HSBC Canada from available connections?

Wave does not seem to be compatible with HSBC Canada. The bank's website login sometimes asks for a birthday but Wave is completely unaware of this, requiring only a username & password (confirmed when I edit the login credentials). Also, Wave never asks for any of the security questions.

Conversely, the HSBC USA connection does not suffer this issue because Wave provides a field to enter a birth date in the login credentials.

It is now almost a month since we've been able to connect, and we're afraid to manually import transactions because the last time we did this the connection suddenly started working and caused a mass influx of duplicate transactions & a pile of associated problems.

Considering the length of time Wave has been unable to connect to the bank, it would be good to know if HSBC Canada is no longer part of Wave's plans.

Please advise.

Hi @powermod -- we are currently using a service called Yodlee to connect to banks. It looks like they've been experiencing ongoing issues with connecting to HSBC. This is what I see on Yodlee's Dashboard for bank connections:

"As part of our proactive monitoring, we have observed/Informed that HSBC Bank Personal Banking will be unavailable between 11/21/2018 and 11/26/2018.We will keep you updated with the Progress."

I understand that you've been experiencing this for almost a month, but this is just the most recent update I see on my end. I can empathize with you and your experiences with your bank connection -- we are always looking to improve this area, I'll be sure to pass this on the team here.

Hey @powermod, apologies about that. In this case it looks like unfortunately the third-party banking data aggregator we use isn't currently able to support HSBC accounts of this type. We're exploring different methods of offering a stable connection to banks. Also our banking data aggregator has confirmed they are working on re-establishing this connection, but at this time there is no ETA.

Hi @powermod, I've taken a look on our end and i can confirm that, even after all this time, this specific HSBC account is not supported by our banking data provider. Their team internally prioritizes the financial institutions that they support, and given the length of time waiting on a working connection here, I'm under the impression that this institution will not be available in the near term.

I would recommend using an alternative method to import your transaction data from this account to Wave. We typically recommend bank statement or .csv uploads, but we've recently introduced another way to easily get .csv transaction data into Wave. If you have not tried it already, I'd recommend using our Google Sheets integration, Wave Connect, as an alternative to statement uploads.
