How to categorize the expense of registering a Copyright, Trademark, etc.

Sorry for the noob question here, but what is the best way to categorize the expense of filing a copyright registration, trademark application, etc.? I realize that IP is an asset, but the fees associated with them must be some sort of an expense. How would the accounting world categorize them?
(Also, I tried to list a few "tags" for this post but the tag field said it couldn't find any item I tried. eg. "expense", "chart of accounts", "copyright", intellectual property", "fees", etc. WTF?)
