Credit Memos?

I've had a few instances where I would need to void an invoice in order to keep the record of the transaction but the balance to be $0 and not effect anything else.

I noticed one of the main complaint was if you invoiced someone $1000 and you added a line for -$1000 to essentially void the invoice, the invoice would show unpaid indefinitely. When I did this, it doesn't show unpaid and I really don't think its effecting anything anymore. Is that thread outdated? Did Wave fix the unpaid issue? Is this the correct way to go about this now?
