How do I record cash payments?

When you look at your unpaid invoices, click on the arrow under Actions. Select Record a payment and then Record a manual payment.

Thanks we run a farmers market. Someone pays us cash for carrots. Do we need to have an invoice? Can we just record a cash payment?
