Link manually entered transaction to automatically pulled data from bank

I was wondering, is it possible to link a manually entered income/expense to what it will show up from you bank connection.
the reason this is important, is because we accept checks, and we want to enter the information about the manually entered payment right away, so it doesn't get confused who paid what, and also to send a receipt of payment, but then when we the checks are being cleared (sometimes a week or two after that), we have to delete the originally entered check, and than mark the cleared check from the checking account to that invoice, and it's frustrating,
