Can't Change Federal (U.S.) Tax Allowances Field

I have followed instructions trying to change the Federal Tax Allowances on the Federal Tax Details screen. Each time I make the change and save, it reverts back to the previously saved entry. I would like to update this asap before running my next payroll. Please advise.
