Printed payroll checks, why are they not recorded?

I purchased the sheet checks so that I can print my payroll. Printed them fine, but the check number is not recorded in Wave. Now the check has cleared the bank, and what category do I put it under in Wave? Why hasn't wave done this automatically since I ran payroll and printed the checks?
